The temporary halt on the construction of new rental houses on Tybee Island is already having a detrimental impact on the housing market.

This is according to local realtors who spoke to WTOC on Monday, only two weeks after the city imposed a 90-day freeze on new rental property registrations.

The home market on Tybee is "hot" during the pandemic, according to some. The housing pool was frequently depleted. People are afraid to buy now, according to some real estate brokers WTOC spoke with, since they don't know if their home can be rented after the moratorium ends.
